Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can reduce fine lines, especially under the eyes and around the mouth, treat mild scarring and certain types of acne, help diminish skin discoloration, such as age spots, liver spots, sun spots or freckles, and can help to refresh skin texture and color.

Facial chemical peels are used to improve the skin's appearance by applying a chemical solution to the skin, causing the top layers of skin to separate and peel off. The new skin is smoother; less wrinkled, and will likely be more even in color. Facial peels are used to revitalize skin, as they exfoliate dead skin and help to help shrink pores while also reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Results can often be enhanced with other techniques like laser/light-based rejuvenation or with other procedures, such as dermal fillers.

At Skin Physicians & Surgeons, we offer 3 types of chemical peels that are classified by their depth of penetration – Superficial, Medium and Deep strength. These include Glycolic Acid Peels, Beta-lift (for acne treatment), Salicylic Acid Peels, Vitalize Peels (our most popular chemical peel), Revitalize Peels, and Trichloroacetic Acid Peels (for deeper peels)

How much does a chemical peel cost?

Beta-Lift Chemical Peel: a 20-30% salicylic acid chemical peel to treat acne and improve pigmentation. ($80 for 1 treatment or $200 for 3 treatments)
Illuminize Chemical Peel: "liquid" microdermabrasion ($100)
Rejuvenize Chemical Peel: A deeper chemical peel used for sun damage, reducing lines and wrinkles, acne treatment, acne scarring, dark spots, and melasma ($160)

Vitalize Chemical Peel: excellent exfoliating peel to diminish dark spots, freckles, fine lines; includes treatment with tomical retinoid ($130 for 1 treatment, $350 for 3 treatments or $650 for 6 treatments).
Melanage Chemical Peel: A superficial chemical peel designed to significantly improve the texture and appearance of hyperpigmented skin which includes a medicated masque and an at-home regimen ($600)

Earlobe Repair

At Skin Physicians & Surgeons, we can repair stretched or torn earlobes in our office using only local anesthetic. Torn and elongated ear lobes can be repaired with a minor surgical procedure while most torn ear lobes can be repaired by simply taking out the edges of the tear and repositioning the new edges evenly and allowing them to heal in place.

Elongated and misshaped earlobes can be shortened or reshaped to provide a more attractive, youthful appearance. If your problem is that your earrings tend to point downward, you can see significant improvement after using a filler injection (Restylane or Juvederm) which will make thin earlobes thicker and help to support those heavy, down-turned earrings.

Dysport

What is Dysport?
Dysport is the new Botox™ Cosmetic competitor. While it's composed of the same active ingredient as Botox™ Cosmetic, preliminary studies show that Dysport may provide a faster onset of action and may last a month or so longer!

What can Dysport do for you?
Whenever you laugh, frown, concentrate or squint into the sun, your facial muscles contract and your skin creases. As you get older your skin loses its elasticity and those creases deepen into lines that become permanently etched on your face. Botox™ Cosmetic

Botox™ Cosmetic is a spectacular product, a purified protein used to remarkably and temporarily reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. It's most commonly used to remove frown lines (those lines between the eyebrows), and can also greatly minimize forehead lines and crow's feet. Muscles surrounding your eyes tighten multiple times during the day. The tightening of these muscles eventually leaves creases or wrinkles on the skin. Injecting small doses of Botox™ Cosmetic directly into these muscles using a tiny needle allows the muscles to relax, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Patients usually experience very little to no discomfort during the Botox™ Cosmetic procedure. The procedure takes approximately 10 minutes and most patients can return to their daily activities immediately after treatment. Wrinkles will not return for a period of three to five months following the Botox™ Cosmetic treatment. Restylane & Perlane (Hyaluronic Acid Fillers) are most commonly used to smooth moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles such as the lines that travel from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane & Perlane can fill depressions or shadows under the eyes and can be used to reshape or plump the lips thereby minimizing "smoker's lines" that radiate from the lips.

Restylane & Perlane can even shape facial contours, such as highlighting your cheekbones. These fillers are clear gels composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found throughout your body and can provide lasting improvement and a smooth, natural appearance that can last 6 months to over a year.

Latisse®

Radiesse™ (Radiance)

Radiesse™ is another type of "filler" that is used most popularly to fill in the deep lines that can form extending from the sides of the nose to the sides of the mouth - the so called "smile lines". It is also used to reduce lines on the upper lip, to diminish blemishes like acne scars, and to restore the natural contours of the cheeks. Radiesse™ is unique among treatments to enhance the face. It is composed of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in an aqueous gel, which is a completely synthetic compound that is compatible with the body.

Because no animal or human tissues are involved, allergy testing is not required. Calcium is a natural substance already in the body. In fact, the basic element in Radiesse™ has been safely used by the medical profession for more than 25 years. Radiesse™ is FDA-approved for soft tissue marking in any anatomical location, vocal cord injection and oral/maxillofacial augmentation. FDA approval for facial implant is pending. Internationally, Radiesse™ has received approval for facial implant and treatment of stress urinary incontinence.

Sculptra™ Aesthetic

As we age, not only do we see the effects of gravity, causing droopiness in our skin, but we also lose fat, or fullness, particularly in our face and hands. This may lead to sunken cheeks, hollowed-out eyes, and increased visibility of veins in the hands. Sculptra™ Aesthetic is called a "volumizer", because it can successfully return volume to areas that are now lacking.

Sculptra™ Aesthetic is presently approved by the FDA to correct signs of facial fat loss for those people with human immunodeficiency virus. When Sculptra™ Aesthetic is injected into the skin, it fills in or adds volume to the skin and creates a more natural facial appearance for those who have lost fat beneath the skin. Sculptra™ Aesthetic is an alternative to fat injections, when a surgeon removes fat from one area of the body and injects it into another.

Sculptra™ Aesthetic is composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material that has been widely used for many years in suture material for surgical procedures. It's not made from human or animal sources and does not require a skin test. Poly-L-lactic acid is biocompatible (does not harm the body) and biodegradable (able to be broken down and eliminated by the body). Patients with severe facial fat loss may require 3-6 sessions spaced 5 weeks apart.

The effects of Sculptra™ Aesthetic may last 2-4 years. However, the results are not immediate but gradual and depend on your own collagen to gradually thicken and add fullness to the area treated. The Sculptra™ Aesthetic procedure is performed as a simple office procedure taking approximately 30 minutes. You are swollen in the area treated for 1-3 days, but can cover any minor bruising with make-up and are certainly still able to return to work.

Sclerotherapy/Leg Vein Removal

Sclerotherapy/Leg Vein Removal remains the "gold standard" for treatment of spider veins, most commonly on the legs. Sclerotherapy/Leg Vein Removal involves the near painless injections of a detergent or irritant, that causes small spider veins to collapse and no longer fill with blood. After the procedure, you wear compression pantyhose for a week, which will aid in keeping the small blood vessels compressed so they don't fill again with blood.
